Examining Perceived Gender Quality in Musical Theater Singing
My name is Rachel Klippel, and I am a 2nd year MFA Candidate at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. I am currently conducting a study along with Professors Kayla Gautereaux, Josh Gilbert, and Megan Stahl on the perceived gender qualities of Musical Theater singing. I would like to invite you to participate.
Eligible participants must be aged 20–55, have at least two years of professional teaching experience teaching one-on-one voice lessons, and not have significant hearing loss. Participants must provide their own headphones and a computer with internet access for use during the survey. Participants will listen to recordings of musical theatre singing and rate each recording on a scale from masculinity to femininity. The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Your input will be valuable in helping the voice community understand contributing factors to the gender perception of musical theater singing. Your participation is completely voluntary, and all information you provide will remain anonymous. If you decide to participate, you may withdraw from the study at any time.
