2022 New England Regional Student Auditions Information

New England NATS Student Auditions are due Sunday, February 13th 2022 at 11:59 PM

Every year The National Association of Teachers of Singing conducts online
National Student Auditions
. The first step for students wishing to qualify for these auditions is to place in the top-5 for their age Category in their Region.
In order to facilitate this process, the New England Region holds online Student Auditions every year.
All NATS Members in the New England Region are eligible to submit their students for this opportunity!
Your students will receive Judges feedback on all of their video submissions - this is a great opportunity to discuss vocal growth with your students whether they move forward to the National Round or not!

General Guidelines
  1. Auditions are held ONLINE ONLY. Teachers will submit videos of their students singing their Audition selections to live or recorded PIANO accompaniment. NO ORCHESTRAL ACCOMPANIMENTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR USE. (exceptions are made for the Contemporary Music Category ONLY).
  2. Follow these VIDEO GUIDELINES when creating Audition Videos with your Students.
  3. Here are some Self Tape Do's and Don'ts
  4. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Nothing in your Student’s videos can identify who their teacher is or where they are attending School. Videos should be posted to your Student’s YouTube page - not the teachers - before loading the links into the Audition Registration System.
  5. Your student may submit videos for up to 2 Categories. Click here to find out which Category your students are eligible for and the Requirements for each Category, or scroll below for this information.
  6. Videos are due Sunday, February 13th at 11:59PM.
  7. NEW IN 2022! NATS National has now split the High School Categories into Upper & Lower for both Treble and TBB voices - so our Region will as well! Lower HS Classical and Musical Theater is for High School Freshman & Sophomores and Upper HS Classical and Musical Theater is for High School Juniors & Seniors.

Q: When are registration and video submissions due?

A: Sunday, February 13th at 11:59 PM.

Q: Do students need to place or participate in their local Chapter Auditions in order to participate in the New England Regional Auditions?
A: NO! All are welcome.

Q: I have students who don’t fit “traditional” Categories - what does this mean?
A: A few years ago NATS changed all voice Categories to be more inclusive. We offer Treble (soprano, mezzo, alto, contralto, countertenor) and TBB (tenor, baritone, bass). These are voice Categories and are unrelated to the gender identity of the student. Additionally, when submitting students to any of the categories, published transpositions are permitted. Singers are expected to retain the composer's intended style of music and to convey the essence of the character portrayed in the larger work.

Q:What music and how much music must my Student prepare?
A:

Q: Why register?
A: Participation in the New England Regional Student Auditions is the first step in the process to be considered for the 2022 National NATS Student Auditions. Participation in the National Student Auditions is a great honor and a fun opportunity to network with other singers from around the Nation!
Students will receive constructive feedback from teachers about their singing and performing. It is always good to hear from more than just a primary teacher about the things students can improve upon as well as to hear that they are on the right track!

AWARDS! The 1st place finisher in the New England Regional Student Auditions in every category will receive a financial award. The amount is dependent on the number of registrants and will be announced along with the winners.
